attendance. The following items were discussed:
Membership

total members. Please welcome Lori Kohl & Carl Herrick as new 5 year
members. Lori & Carl are both trained trail patrols and will be a positive
asset to the trail patrol program and our club.
Lakewood
Parade: Members of our club will ride and handout parade
beads at the annual Mardi Gras Parade on Sunday July 15th at noon in Lakewood.
We will have more info and pictures on our website at: www.hiddenbeartrailatvclub.com.
Fund Raiser July
28th: Our club will have a Fund Raiser on Saturday July
28th from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm at Lakewood Super Valu at their Brat Barn. The
following members have volunteered to help: Kathy Steinbach, Lucas Steinbach,
Mark Peterson, Loren Nelson, Carl Herrick Jr., and Laurie Kohl. Thanks for
volunteering!!!
Lakewood
Report: Loren Nelson reported that all roads and signs are
up in Lakewood for ATV travel and at this time we have not had any problems.
Our club has been working with Oconto County to open certain stretches of County
Highway F in Lakewood for ATV travel. We are again meeting with Pat Scanlan,
the Oconto County Highway Commissioner on Monday July 23rd to discuss further
plans. We are also looking at a stretch of Highway W west of Mountain by the
Pine Grove Bar and also a small stretch of County Highway T around Boulder Lake
that same day. We will update the members on the progress of this
meeting.
Riverview
Report: On Tuesday July 10th at their monthly Riverview
Town Board Meeting, the Board voted to open the remainder of the Riverview Town
Roads for ATV Travel effective May 1st, 2013. The Town Board will be writing
and publishing the new ordinance in the next few months. Our club has suggested
that they mirror the new ordinance after the Townsend & Lakewood ATV
Ordinance’s, which include year round ATV travel on all town roads. The Crooked
Trails club and our club have agreed to share the cost of the signs and posts.
We will keep you updated what the new ordinance will be. The Board of Directors
will be discussing a possible fund raiser early next year to offset the cost of
signs.
Doty
Report: Board member Tim Stephani reported that the Town
of Doty at their monthly Board Meeting opened up 3 gravel roads in the Boulder
Lake Area. These 3 roads will connect the Boulder Lake Campgrounds to the new
Forest Service (FS) trail that we are working on with the FS to connect with
Blue Spruce Road and the 50 mile loop that we opened last year. We will keep
you updated on the progress on this project, everything is in place except the
FS property being opened. Thanks Tim for spearheading this.
Forest Service
(FS) Report: We are in the last phases of our $23,000.00 grant that we
received from the FS last year to improve the FS trail/route between the Nicolet
State Trail & Mountain Lakes Road in Riverview. We had a total of $7,000.00
left this year to spend on the improvements and currently our contractor is
placing more gravel in this stretch of trail. You should notice more
improvements when you travel this trail with your ATV. We also heard from
Oconto County that our Grant Request thru the DNR has been approved to complete
the new construction on a .17 mile of new trail to connect the detour area that
we are currently using around Island Lake Road and Star Lake Road. Once the
County receives the money and we get the ok from the FS this project will be
completed and we will then be able to eliminate the detour around that area and
get off of 3 miles of blacktop. We are working on 2 other projects with the FS,
one being a route from the Nicolet State Trail north of Mulligans over to the
Golf Course area and to Old 32 and then over to Sullivan Springs Road the other
is the Boulder Lake project. We will continue to update you on the progress of
all 3 projects.
DNR Safety Course
& DNR Trail Patrol Training: On July 5th & 6th our
club sponsored a DNR Safety Certification Class at the Doty Town Hall. We had a
total of 39 students and 8 instructors from 4 different clubs. Anyone born after January 1st, 1988 must have a DNR Safety
Certification Card to drive a ATV on public trails, routes or a designated ATV
road. All 39 students received their DNR
Certification Card. A picture of the graduates and an article is
on our website at: www.hiddenbeartrailatvclub.com. Thanks to the Town of Doty for letting us use their beautiful air
conditioned Town Hall. On Saturday June 30th our club participated in the DNR
Trail Patrol update training. 6 members from our club attended this training
and are now re-certified as Trail Patrol members.
