Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club Newsletter June 2013
June
Membership Meeting: Our June 2013 Membership Meeting was
held at the Halfway Bar in Mountain WI on Saturday June 8th with a total of 20
members in attendance.
Membership Report: We added 4 new
memberships since our last newsletter and our total paying membership is at 125
with a total membership of 240 members.
Doty
Report: On Wednesday May 29th we had a total of 16 members
meet at 9:00 am at Animal’s Bear Trail to install over 90 ATV Route Signs on all
the Town Roads in Doty. On Friday May 31st the Doty Town Officials gave the
approval to officially open up all the Town Roads in Doty for ATV/UTV travel. A
special thanks to our Vice President Loren Nelson for organizing the maps and
directions for the 16 members that helped. Due to the great organization from
Loren it only took the group about 3 hours to get the signs installed. Thanks
to all the members that helped!! All members can help by patrolling and
informing riders to obey all the laws and especially obeying all speed limits on
town roads.
Riverview Report: We had only 1
incident in Riverview over the Memorial Day Weekend. ATV/UTV Riders continue to
take a short cut from the Halfway Bar over to the Nicolet State Trail using the
Highway Right of Way and also going on private property to do so. After
receiving a call from DNR Warden Joe Paul our club installed a temporary fence
on the private property and installed more no ATV signs. Please remember that
you can not use the Highway Right of Ways for ATV/UTV
Travel.
Lakewood Report: We have now signed the
ditchline lines on County F that are open for ATV/UTV Travel. Only areas along
Highway F are opened if they have the required signs in place. Our next project
is to put wood chips along the areas that are open. If any member has access to
wood chips please let our club know, we are having a tough time locating wood
chips.
Fundraiser at Lakewood Super Valu: We
are having a Brat Fry Fundraiser on Friday June 28th at the Lakewood Super
Valu. The Lakewood Super Valu is running a meat sale on that day. Our plan is
to work later into the afternoon if possible, which means we are looking for
volunteer’s that day. We are going to have 2 shifts one from 10:00 am to 2:00
pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. If anyone can help please email me at hiddenbeartrailatvclub@centurytel.net or
call me at 715-276-6612.
ATV
Safety Class: The Red Arrow Snowmobile/ATV Club is hosting
an ATV Safety class on Monday July 1st and Tuesday July 2nd from 5:30 pm to 9:00
pm. Our club is assisting with the training. All persons born on or after
January 1, 1998 must take this course to ride an ATV or UTV in Wisconsin.
Registration information is available on the Red Arrow Website at: www.redarrowtownsend.com or on our website at www.hiddenbeartrailatvclub.com. There is a $10.00 Fee for this course but the fee is waived for
children or grandchildren of our club or the Red Arrow Club.
Wisconsin ATV Association Trail Patrol:
In our last newsletter I congratulated Kathy Steinbach for her participation as
one of the top Trail Patrol Ambassador’s in the state, I am very sorry that I
also missed 2 other members from our club that actually tied with Kathy for the
number one Trail Patrol Ambassador’s in the state, Frank and Audrey Emery have
been members of our club since 2011. Frank and Audrey live in Clam Lake WI but
are very active members of not only our club but many other clubs in the State
of Wisconsin. Frank and Audrey attend many of the WI ATV Association Events and
are excellent representatives of the Trail Ambassador Program. Audrey is the
niece of one of our very active members Don Jackson and when Frank and Audrey
visit Don in Lakewood they patrol the trails in our area.
Forest
Service (FS) Report: On Tuesday May 23rd I met with our
new representative from the Forest Service that our club will be working with to
enhance riding opportunities in the Nicolet National Forest. Greyling Brandt is
the new Forest Ranger assigned to the Laona/Lakewood Station to work with area
ATV Clubs. Greyling is a Wisconsin Native from the Park Falls Area and has
worked in Minnesota and recently in Utah with the Forest Service. Greyling and
I spend about 6 hours looking at our current projects, which included our plan
from the Nicolet State Trail by Mulligan’s over to Sullivan Springs Road (this
new route/trail will get the rider’s from Lakewood/Townsend area over to Crooked
Lake Area quicker and eliminate riding on blacktop roads). We also looked at the
Mountain Lakes Project thru the Town of Riverview that we opened in the fall of
2011 (we still have some work to do in this area even though the trail/route is
open). The third area we looked at which is our number one priority at this
time is the Forest Service Property from Blue Spruce Road in Doty over to the
2 Boulder Lake Campgrounds. In regards to this project we now have all the Town
Roads open to ATV/UTV Travel, the private land owners at the Campgrounds have
completed their work and the missing link is FS property. After meeting that
day I explained to Greyling that we did not expect any answers that day but if
he could give us a status report of these projects at our next FS meeting on
Monday June 10th. We will report the status of these projects at our July
membership Meeting.
