WI DNR Rules and Regulations Updates
The Wisconsin DNR reminds all ATV/UTV riders to complete an approved ATV/UTV safety course before hitting the trails. Operators age 12 and older who were born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, are required to complete a DNR-approved safety course and carry proof of certification while riding on public trails, routes, and some private lands.
The DNR strongly encourages all riders, regardless of age, to take a safety course to improve riding skills, increase awareness, and help prevent crashes. Both online and in-person classes are available, with many in-person courses completed in one weekend.
The DNR has also announced several new ATV/UTV regulations, including:
- Seatbelts are now required for all UTV operators and passengers
- Increased penalties for intentionally causing property damage
- Restrictions on towing people on trails and routes
- New window tint restrictions for UTVs
