Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club Newsletter August 2012
Membership Meeting: Our August Membership Meeting was held at 10:00
am on August 18th, 2012 at Animal’s Bear Trail Inn prior to our Fund Raiser. We
had 30 members in attendance.
Membership
Report: We received 7 new membership applications at our
Fund Raiser on August 18th and now have a total of 122 paid members and 258
total family members.
Lakewood: We have met with Pat Scanlan
the Oconto County Highway Commissioner on 2 separate occasions and have proposed
4 different portions of Highway F that we would like to travel in the ditch line
along County F. We have worked with private land owner’s along with Oconto
County. The Oconto County Highway Committee is meeting August 20th to discuss
our proposal and we should know the outcome of our request soon. We will let
everyone know via email of the results of that meeting. We also had a Fund
Raiser at the Super Valu Brat Stand in Lakewood on July 28th in which we made
$318.00 for our club.
Riverview
Report: Just a reminder that the remainder of the Town
Roads in Riverview will not open for ATV travel until May 1st, 2013. The only
roads opened in Riverview are posted with green ATV Signs.
Doty
Report: We are now waiting for a 30 day scoping process
with the Forest Service. This process started August 10th and by September 10th
we should know more regarding opening up a new trail to Boulder Lake from Blue
Spruce. This will allow the people at Boulder Lake to access the new trail that
we opened last fall, which will give them access to the Nicolet State
Trail.
Forest Service
Report: We continue to work with the FS to open up new
trails in the National Forest. Currently working with the trail over to Boulder
Lake and a new ATV trail from the Nicolet State Trail north of Mulligans over to
Crooked Lake. We are very close in spending the $23,000 grant that we received
from the FS last year to improve the new trail that we opened last fall. That
portion was the first 5 miles off of the Nicolet State Trail over to Mountain
Lakes Road in Riverview. We are also applying for 2 new grants to improve the
trail/route from Blue Spruce Road in Doty to Highway T just south of Animal’s
Bear Trail Inn and also the possible new route from Blue Spruce in Doty to
Boulder Lake. We should know the outcome of these 2 grant applications later
this fall and if approved work will begin next spring.

Trails/Routes.
Pembine
Trip: As I stated in the last newsletter 3 couples left
from Mountain and took an overnight trip to the Four Seasons Resort in Pembine
WI on our ATV/UTV’s. The trip was great except that the first day the
temperature was over 95 degrees which made it a bit uncomfortable. We left the
Mountain area around 9:00 am and got to the Four Season’s resort around 3:30 pm,
with a stop for lunch at the Northwoods Bar in Athelstane. If you have never
been to the Four Seasons Resort in Pembine it is worth the trip. it is located
on Muscano Island, they have a 9 hole golf course, 2 restaurants, 2 bars, &
a swimming pool. The Southern Route over to the Four Season Resort was 80
miles. The next day we left the resort and took the Northern Route back, which
was 90 miles. The trails over to Pembine are vey nice especially the trails
right around Athelstane. If anyone needs directions to get to the Four Seasons
please contact Jim, the trip goes thru Oconto, Forest & Northern Marinette
Counties and you need all 3 ATV Maps to navigate the trip.
