Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club Newsletter September 2013

Membership Meeting, Club Ride &
Cook-out: We had our September Membership meeting on
Saturday September 14th at the Firelite Lounge in Lakewood, we had 12 members in attendance and after the meeting we went on a club ride. It was a very nice day
and we had 10 ATV’s & UTV’s on the ride, we left Lakewood at 11:00 am went
north on the Nicolet State Trail toward Townsend, and enjoyed lunch at Animal’s
Bear Trail Inn and arrived back in Lakewood at 3:00 pm. We had our club cookout
right at the trailhead in Lakewood and had approx. 30 members in attendance.
The day ended around 7:00 pm with everyone having a great time.
Doty,
Riverview & Lakewood Report: Just a reminder that not
all of the ditchline’s along County F in Lakewood are open for ATV travel. We
have 3 approved ditchlines open, one between the golf course and old 32, the
second from W Wheeler Lake Road to Symth Road and the last between Waupee Lake Lodge and the ATV trail that crosses County F at Knowles Creek Road. We will be posting better directions and no ATV signs along other areas on County F where riders are illegally using the ditchline. By using these illegal ditchlines it
will only give Oconto County a reason to close down the ditchlines that we do
have approved. In Doty we will be looking at replacing the strapping material
along County T on the fence that was installed on O’Briens property. This
should be completed sometime next spring.
Forest
Service: The Boulder Lake connection that we have been
working on the last 3 years is now open for ATV/UTV travel. This connection
comes off of the ATV Route on Blue Spruce Road in Doty and connects to the 2
campgrounds at Boulder Lake and also allows many property owners in the Boulder Lake Area to access the ATV Route/Trail System. Thanks goes to the Forest Service for rewarding our club with a $6,225.00 grant to improve the route from Blue Spruce to Boulder Lake, to Land Owner Jack Bosser for allowing the trail to go thru his property, to the club members that spend many meetings working on
this project and to club members that helped brush the trail. We are also
working on the project from the Nicolet State Trail by Mulligan’s over to
Sullivan Springs Road including the Golf Course Connector, this project is in
it’s final stages and should be open August 1st, 2014. We are also working on
the connector off of Shadow Lake Road over to Blue Spruce in the Town of Doty
and working on a large project with the Forest Service, DNR, Langlade County and
our State ATV Association (WATVA) connecting the trail system from Oconto County over to a new recreational bridge in Langlade that will connect the Oconto
County Trail System to the Langlade Trail System.
Final
Fundraiser Report: We had a very successful Fundraiser on
August 17th, 2013 and would like to thank all members that attended and
helped that day. Proceeds from that day will go toward creating new ATV/UTV
Routes, maintaining existing trails/routes and insuring the safe riding
opportunities in our area.
Mountain Town Roads: All of the
Mountain Town Roads are now open and signed. Our Board of Director’s voted to
donate $200.00 to the Town of Mountain to help pay for the signs. There ATV/UTV
Ordinance is very similar to the other area towns. Speed Limit on Town Roads in
Mountain is 20 mph.
